The storm of the red koji health supplements of Japanese Xiaolin Pharmaceutical continues, and the authorities found two more kinds of foreign objects in related products.
According to Kyodo News, the results of the analysis of the sample of the product raw materials by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare together with the National Institute of Pharmaceutical and Food Hygiene showed that in addition to the “soft hair blue mold acid” found previously, two kinds of substances that usually do not mix in the production process were also found. It is currently investigating whether they are produced by mold, whether they are harmful to human health, and at which stage they are mixed into the raw materials.
Up to now, five people in Japan are suspected to have died after taking the health supplements, and more than 200 people have to be hospitalized for treatment.
